Ranjit Babu Resigns as Head of Consumer Electronics at Amazon India Amid Senior-Level Departures

Ranjit Babu, the head of consumer electronics at Amazon India, has reportedly stepped down, marking another significant senior-level exit for the e-commerce giant. The news, first reported by The Economic Times, highlights ongoing changes in Amazon’s leadership in India.

Babu, a long-time executive with over a decade at Amazon India, played pivotal roles during his tenure. He served as the chief executive of Cloudtail—Amazon’s largest seller—between 2021 and 2022. In December 2023, he took on additional responsibilities after senior executive Noor Patel transitioned to Amazon US. By mid-2024, Babu was appointed head of consumer electronics, a role that included overseeing the high-priority smartphone category.

The resignation comes on the heels of other leadership shifts at Amazon India. In September, the company appointed Samir Kumar as its new country head. Kumar, who also manages Amazon’s consumer businesses in the Middle East, South Africa, and Turkey, succeeded Manish Tiwary. Tiwary left Amazon in August 2024 to explore external opportunities.

These leadership changes come at a critical juncture for Amazon. The company is reportedly preparing to enter the fast-growing commerce market in early 2025, competing with industry leaders like BlinkIt and Zepto.

Amazon has yet to issue an official statement regarding Babu’s departure.
