Quick commerce platform Blinkit, owned by Zomato, has appointed Vipin Kapooria as its new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), marking the company’s first full-time CFO appointment in over two years. Kapooria’s appointment follows the resignation of Hemal Jain, who previously managed finance operations for both Zomato and Blinkit.
Before joining Blinkit, Kapooria was the Vice President and Business Finance Head at Flipkart, where he worked for over four years. In his tenure at the Walmart-owned e-commerce giant, Kapooria headed the business finance for the mobiles, electronics, and large appliances categories.
This move follows a series of leadership changes at Blinkit, including the resignation of the company’s previous CFO Amit Sachdeva in August 2022. Sachdeva later joined IGT Solutions and was most recently appointed as CFO at the edtech unicorn PhysicsWallah.
The shift in leadership also highlights a broader trend of Flipkart executives transitioning to rival companies. Blinkit’s new CFO appointment is the latest in a string of high-profile departures from Flipkart, with Swiggy recruiting several former Flipkart leaders for roles in its Instamart division.
As Blinkit and its competitors like Instamart continue to expand in the quick commerce space, Kapooria’s expertise will be crucial in navigating the challenges of scaling operations and managing financial growth in an increasingly competitive market.
