Introduction

In a world where screens have increasingly become a dominant source of entertainment for children, Clapstore Toys is on a mission to redefine playtime. Founded by Yash Thombare and Vedang Nalawade, the company was born during the pandemic as a creative solution to the growing screen-time dilemma faced by parents worldwide. What started as a dropshipping venture soon evolved into a brand with a distinct identity, committed to designing toys that engage young minds without the need for digital devices. Their inspiring journey took a transformative turn after appearing on Shark Tank India, propelling them into the spotlight and helping them scale their operations.

In an insightful conversation with Sandhya Bharti, Deputy Editor at Indian Startup Times, Vedang Nalawade and Yash Thombare shared Clapstore Toys’ remarkable journey, the challenges they encountered, and their vision for the future.

The Birth of Clapstore Toys: A Pandemic-Inspired Solution

Clapstore Toys was born out of necessity during the pandemic when children’s screen time surged as physical play was limited. Yash and Vedang recognized an opportunity to create innovative, screen-free toys that would engage children meaningfully. Initially starting with a dropshipping model, they soon realized the need for unique products that resonated with their mission of reducing screen time. This led to the development of their own line of toys, setting the brand apart in a competitive market.

Our mission was clear from the start – to create toys that inspire creativity and curiosity without relying on screens,” Vedang explained. This vision guided their product development process, ensuring every toy was not only fun but also aligned with their educational and interactive values.

A Turning Point: Shark Tank India and the Growth Surge

Clapstore Toys gained widespread recognition after featuring on Shark Tank India, leading to a significant spike in sales and brand awareness. The exposure not only opened new avenues but also helped them establish an in-house manufacturing unit to meet growing demand. Vedang accredited investors like Piyush Bansal and Anupam Mittal for their invaluable guidance, particularly in addressing challenges related to trust and supply-demand dynamics.

Their feedback helped us overcome manufacturing challenges and build a strong team culture,” Vedang shared, emphasizing how mentorship played a crucial role in their growth journey.

Unique Offerings and Branding Innovations

A key factor behind Clapstore Toys’ success is their emphasis on unique product offerings and effective branding strategies. One standout initiative was the introduction of a character named Poppy, designed to create a relatable and engaging mascot for children. This character-centric approach, coupled with strategic influencer collaborations, significantly boosted their marketing efforts and brand recall.

Storytelling is at the core of our branding. We wanted children to connect with our brand emotionally, and Poppy was our way of achieving that,” Vedang noted.

Learning from Challenges: Resilience and Growth

The entrepreneurial journey for Yash and Vedang was not without its challenges. From manufacturing bottlenecks to establishing trust in a competitive market, they faced multiple hurdles. However, their resilience and commitment to continuous learning helped them navigate these challenges effectively.

Vedang candidly shared insights from his journey, emphasizing the importance of learning from failures, maintaining consistency, and actively listening to customer feedback. He also highlighted the crucial role of a dedicated team, mentioning that Clapstore Toys now employs 12 back office staff and 40 manufacturing employees, all working towards a common vision of transforming playtime.

The Road Ahead: Expansion and Innovation

Looking to the future, Clapstore Toys has ambitious plans for growth and expansion. The company is gearing up for new product launches designed to further engage children’s creativity. They are also planning to expand into international markets, with a particular focus on the US and Canada, leveraging the growing demand for educational and screen-free toys.

We want to bring our vision to a global audience. Our upcoming product lines are designed to inspire play and learning, no matter where children are in the world,” Vedang revealed, hinting at exciting times ahead for the brand.

Conclusion: A Vision Beyond Toys

Clapstore Toys isn’t just about creating toys; it’s about creating experiences that inspire imagination, curiosity, and growth. The journey of Yash Thombare and Vedang Nalawade from pandemic-born entrepreneurs to industry disruptors is a testament to their vision, resilience, and unwavering commitment to their mission.

As they continue to innovate and expand globally, Clapstore Toys is poised to redefine the future of play, ensuring that children can learn, grow, and play – all without the need for screens.
