Google Partners with ElectricPe to Integrate EV Charging Stations into Google Maps in India

Date:

In a significant move to enhance the electric vehicle (EV) charging experience, search giant Google has partnered with Indian startup ElectricPe. This collaboration aims to provide Google Maps users across India with real-time information on the availability and status of EV charging points, facilitating better journey planning and reducing range anxiety. The new feature will be accessible through both Google Maps and Google Search and is expected to expand to other regions over time.

ElectricPe, an EV charging aggregation platform, has raised $8.29 million to date from investors including Blume Ventures. Founded in May 2021 by Avinash Sharma and Raghav Rohila, ElectricPe connects users to a wide network of charging points across India. Through the ElectricPe app, users can easily locate charging stations, and scan QR codes to initiate charging and complete payments.

The Bengaluru-based company claims to operate over 25,000 public chargers in the city, making it the largest network in Bengaluru. ElectricPe has also partnered with Hero Electric to establish charging points in residential complexes, commercial buildings, and other establishments nationwide.

Market research projects that India will have over 5 million public charging stations by 2030, highlighting the rapid growth and importance of accessible EV infrastructure.

In related news, Google recently announced a significant reduction in the pricing of its Google Maps platform for developers in India, cutting prices by up to 70% starting August 1. This decision follows an appeal from Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal, encouraging Indian startups to consider local alternatives such as Ola Maps.
