Ex Unacademy COO Vivek Sinha Secures $11 Million for Beyond Odds Technologies.

Date:

Former Unacademy Chief Operating Officer (COO) Vivek Sinha has embarked on a new journey with his startup, Beyond Odds Technologies, garnering an initial investment of $11 million. Matrix Partners India and Lightspeed spearheaded the seed funding round.

InnoVen Capital, a Temasek subsidiary, and Alteria Capital, along with a lineup of notable angel investors, joined the investment fray. This roster includes luminaries such as Ritesh Agarwal (Founder of OYO), Gaurav Munjal (Founder of Unacademy), Mayank Kumar (Founder of Upgrad), Ramakant Sharma (Founder of Livspace), Abhishek Goyal (Founder of Tracxn), Rohit MA (Founder of CloudNine Hospitals), Sumer Juneja (Managing Partner at SoftBank), Puneet Kumar (Managing Director at Steadview Capital), and Abhinav Sinha (COO of OYO).

Beyond Odds Technologies, headquartered in Bengaluru, is dedicated to employability-led training, certification, and recruitment services for the grey-collar workforce segment. The startup acts as a bridge between employers and talented students.

The company is poised to introduce Emversity, its higher education brand, inaugurating its first centre in Bengaluru on April 20. Subsequently, by June, six more centres will be established in cities like Hyderabad, Delhi, Nagpur, Kochi, and Ranchi. According to a company statement, these centers will offer bachelor’s degree programs, including nursing, and certification courses in collaboration with universities.

Emversity’s inaugural curriculum will feature programs meticulously crafted to address skill demands in the healthcare sector. The startup has forged partnerships with esteemed institutions like Fortis Hospitals and Core Diagnostics for job placements and internships.

Vivek Sinha’s departure from Unacademy in August 2023 marked the end of a three-year tenure. Before his stint at Unacademy, Sinha was a business head at Oyo from April 2018 to September 2020.

His resignation was part of a wave of notable exits from Unacademy, which included luminaries such as chief marketing officer Karan Shroff, chief of staff Abhyudayay Rana, and chief financial officer Subramanian Ramachandran. Shroff has since launched his startup, LightFury Games, which recently secured $8.5 million in its seed round led by Blume Ventures.
