The Carbon Markets Association of India (CMAI) and the Voluntary Carbon Markets Integrity Initiative (VCMI) are thrilled to announce a strategic collaboration to bolster India’s active participation in reputable international carbon markets.
The cornerstone of this partnership is a shared commitment between VCMI and CMAI to advance sustainable development and positive environmental change within the region.
Mark Kenber, Executive Director of VCMI, emphasizes, “High-integrity carbon markets have the potential to channel private and public sector finances where they are most needed. To unlock the vast potential of these markets across India, we aim to support the growth of high-integrity Voluntary Carbon Markets (VCMs) nationwide. Through this exciting collaboration, we intend to significantly accelerate climate action, foster innovation, and promote equitable development.”
The primary objective of VCMI and CMAI is to empower Indian stakeholders to actively participate in international carbon markets with a strong emphasis on integrity. By creating a conducive environment for high-integrity VCMs, the collaboration seeks to eliminate implementation hurdles, attracting private capital in alignment with national and subnational socioeconomic and climate policy agendas.
Secretary General of CMAI Rohit Kumar notes, “This partnership represents a transformative alliance across the entire carbon market landscape, seamlessly connecting grassroots farmers in remote areas to influential Indian policymakers and discerning buyers. Focused on embedding integrity within India’s burgeoning carbon market, this collaboration signifies the establishment of a resilient and trustworthy marketplace. It empowers our nation’s dedicated journey towards achieving net-zero emissions. CMAI is truly delighted about the collaboration with VCMI, foreseeing impactful strides towards a sustainable future.”
