Biotech startup Zerocircle has raised ₹20 crore ($2.3 million) in a funding round led by Zerodha co-founder Nithin Kamath’s Rainmatter. The round also saw participation from early-stage venture capital firms such as 1Crowd, VC Grid, 7th Gen Ventures, and environmental advocate Trudie Styler, among others.
The funding will be used to scale manufacturing, optimize the supply chain, and expand the team as the startup advances its mission of replacing harmful petrochemical-based materials with sustainable alternatives.
Sustainable Packaging Revolution
Founded in 2020 by Neha Jain, Zerocircle develops seaweed-based packaging solutions designed to reduce environmental harm. Its product lineup includes coated packaging for hamburger boxes, fried food containers, bakery packaging, and food trays.
By leveraging seaweed—a renewable and biodegradable resource—Zerocircle aims to provide industries with eco-friendly options while reducing the dependence on petrochemical-based plastics.
Ambitious Growth Plans
The Pune-based startup has set a goal to exceed 3,000 tonnes of production capacity annually by 2028. This includes coated paperboards, food boxes, and advanced coatings that cater to industries demanding sustainable packaging solutions.
Expanding Global Presence
Currently operating in Europe, Zerocircle plans to expand its footprint into markets such as the GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council), tapping into regions with increasing demand for eco-conscious packaging.
This latest funding round underscores the growing support for sustainable innovations and positions Zerocircle as a key player in the global transition toward environmentally friendly packaging solutions.
