Sustainiam, a climate tech startup co-founded by Sapna Nijhawan and Pranav Burnwal, has successfully raised $1.45 million (around Rs 12.14 crore) in its maiden funding round. The investment was led by Orios Venture Partners, with participation from prominent figures including actress Shilpa Shetty Kundra, Rajesh Sawhney, Harsh Vardhan Bhagchandka, and Vinit Bhansali.

The funds will be used to enhance Sustainiam’s digital, technology-powered platform for trading environmental assets, bolster its workforce, and expand operations globally. The company aims to further its mission of offering reporting-to-redemption solutions for corporate emissions, providing businesses with an efficient way to manage their carbon footprint.

Launched in 2023, Sustainiam specializes in offering carbon credit management and climate finance solutions to companies through its platform. Users can easily discover, purchase, and settle carbon credits in real-time. The platform also offers carbon footprint management services, allowing businesses to issue and trade international renewable energy certificates and other carbon certificates, making it easier for them to meet their environmental goals.

The company has already made significant strides, with its first product focused on carbon emissions, and plans to introduce an exchange and registration platform by January 2025. Currently, Sustainiam serves clients across the globe, including major companies such as Coca-Cola, ITC, Unilever, Brookfield, and H&M. The platform is currently trading over 600 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) in carbon assets, and it expects to generate Rs 70 crore in revenue by 2025.

Sustainiam’s key objective is to digitize the carbon asset registration process, streamlining the submission of assets and project documentation. By creating a fully digital submission system, the company aims to simplify the process for recipients of carbon assets to record documentation and generate tradable assets on a single platform.

With more than 140 clients already on board and an ambitious roadmap for growth, Sustainiam is positioning itself as a pivotal player in the global carbon credit and climate tech ecosystem.
