Sports-tech startup Spolto has secured $1 million (approximately Rs 8.4 crore) in its seed funding round, led by investor Andrew Johnston and a group of other backers. The funds will be used to scale its services and expand its presence in more urban areas, according to a company statement.

Founded in 2021 by Safa Soltani and Divesh Nathani, Spolto aims to empower urban India by providing accessible avenues for sports participation. The platform offers a broad range of sports activities, from traditional options like tennis, swimming, badminton, and gymnastics, to emerging sports like pickleball. Its mission is to foster grassroots sports development and promote recreational skills in urban communities.

The startup plans to use the new funding to enhance its digital footprint, catering to the evolving demands of modern Indian consumers. Spolto aspires to become the go-to platform for sports skill development, offering convenience and accessibility to urban residents.

Based in Pune, the company has already formed partnerships with over 1,200 coaches and sports academies across 12 different sports in Maharashtra since its inception. Spolto’s long-term goal is to integrate sports into everyday life for urban Indians, making it easier for people to engage in physical activities and nurture their skills.
