In a groundbreaking move, Indra, a leading provider of intelligent water treatment systems, has successfully raised $4 million in its recent Series A funding round. The funding was spearheaded by Emerald Technology Ventures and Mela Ventures, with additional support from Peak Sustainability Ventures and The Climate Angels.

Established in 2017 by co-founders Amrit Om Nayak and Krunal Patel, Indra has emerged as a key player in addressing the intricate challenges of water treatment in the industrial and sewage sectors. The company’s innovative approach relies on a patented electro-chemical oxidation and coagulation process.

Indra’s cutting-edge technology utilizes ionic reactions to eliminate a wide array of pollutants, including but not limited to unwanted substances, heavy metals, suspended solids, phosphorus, fats, oil, grease, pathogens, and dissolved organics from wastewater. Setting itself apart, the company’s proprietary water treatment solution is not only a plug-and-play system but also requires a mere 10% of the space compared to existing solutions while recovering an impressive 99% of treated water.

Solving the complex issue of wastewater treatment demands continuous innovation and unwavering dedication. Amrit Om Nayak expressed enthusiasm about the partnership with Mela Ventures, stating, “I am very excited that Mela Ventures shares the same passion for sustainable solutions. This partnership gives us a lot of conviction to confidently pursue and deliver on our promise to drive the world’s transition towards sustainable water management.”

Indra’s current focus centres on industrial effluents stemming from textiles, steel manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and sewage from hotels and commercial properties. The impact of Indra’s solutions transcends various sectors where the imperative for effective water treatment is crucial.

Having treated over a billion litres of water, Indra has potentially achieved up to 75% net carbon savings through its water treatment assets. The company boasts up to 90% of space savings, generates 70% less sludge, requires 90% less human intervention, and delivers a 35% reduction in life cycle costs.

The timing of Indra’s success aligns with the burgeoning market for water treatment in India. Currently valued at $12 billion, industry estimates predict this market to surge to $20 billion by 2030. Indra’s innovative and sustainable solutions position the company at the forefront of this transformative journey towards efficient water management, promising a cleaner and more sustainable future.
