Mayhem Studios, the mobile game development studio founded by MPL (Mobile Premier League), has received an undisclosed investment from Lumikai, an interactive media and gaming-focused venture fund. This new funding will help Mayhem Studios scale operations, accelerate game development, expand its team of developers, and enhance its technological capabilities.
Backed by notable investors such as Peak XV Partners (previously Sequoia India), Steadview Capital, Truecaller, Hashed Emergent, Base Partners, and Moore Strategic, Mayhem Studios had earlier raised $20 million in a Series A round co-led by its existing investors in April of the previous year.
Founded in 2022 by Ojas Vipat, Mayhem Studios is currently developing its flagship product, Underworld Gang Wars (UGW), a AAA battle royale game that integrates Indian culture and aesthetics into its gameplay. UGW features iconic Indian locations, distinctive characters, and culturally relevant elements, providing players with a unique and immersive gaming experience. The company exited the closed beta for UGW in May this year and is planning for an open beta, with 7.5 million registrations already on its platform.
Lumikai has a strong track record of backing innovative gaming startups such as Bombay Play, Elo Elo, All Star Games, Supernova, Autovrse, and Vobble. Their investment in Mayhem Studios underscores the potential they see in the Indian gaming market and the innovative approach Mayhem Studios is taking with its culturally immersive games.
With the new funds, Mayhem Studios is poised to make significant strides in the gaming industry, leveraging its rich Indian cultural heritage to create games that resonate with a global audience.
