Amazon Ventures Into Quick Commerce in India to Compete with Rivals

Date:

Amazon India is entering the highly competitive quick commerce sector, launching a pilot program in Bengaluru to challenge market leaders such as Swiggy Instamart, Blinkit, and Zepto. This move signals Amazon’s intention to tap into the rapidly expanding space of ultra-fast deliveries, positioning itself against Flipkart, which has already rolled out its quick commerce service, ‘Minutes’, in select cities.

India has been chosen as the debut market for Amazon’s quick commerce service, aligning with the company’s overarching strategy to extend its reach across every pin code in the country. By leveraging its vast logistics network, Amazon aims to deliver essential goods, groceries, and more within minutes, mimicking the success of competitors.

The specifics of Amazon’s pilot program remain undisclosed, but the entry of a global giant like Amazon is set to intensify the already fierce competition. According to a recent Motilal Oswal study, Blinkit currently leads the Indian quick commerce market with a 46% market share, followed by Zepto at 29% and Swiggy Instamart at 25%.

Quick commerce platforms have also extended their services to include the delivery of medicines, further fueling competition in the sector. Swiggy Instamart recently partnered with PharmEasy to provide 10-minute medicine deliveries, while Flipkart is preparing its own foray into this space. BigBasket, another key player, has teamed up with 1mg to offer quick pharmaceutical deliveries.

Amazon’s entry into the quick commerce market is likely to shake up the landscape, with the company poised to become a formidable rival to both established players and newer entrants in the sector.
