In the ever-evolving landscape of children’s personal care, Tikitoro has emerged as a promising brand dedicated to safe hair and skin products for kids and teens. Founded by Prasanna Vasanadu, Tikitoro is addressing a critical market gap that many parents have long struggled with. In an exclusive interview with Indian Startup Times, Prasanna shared her journey, the brand’s Shark Tank India experience, and growth plans for the future.
Identifying a Market Gap and Building Tikitoro
Prasanna Vasanadu’s foray into entrepreneurship was deeply personal. Having faced hormonal imbalances herself, she became increasingly aware of the impact of chemicals in personal care products. During the COVID-19 lockdown, she conducted market research and discovered a significant gap in safe hair and skin products for children aged 4-16. Parents expressed dissatisfaction with existing offerings, which largely catered either to infants or adults, leaving a crucial segment underserved. This insight led to the birth of Tikitoro, a brand designed to provide safe, dermatologically tested solutions for kids and teenagers.
Shark Tank India: A Turning Point
Tikitoro’s recent appearance on Shark Tank India Season 4 proved to be a game-changer. The brand secured an investment from Namita Thapar, a deal that brought not just funding but also strategic mentorship. The impact was immediate—Tikitoro witnessed a 150% surge in website traffic and achieved EBITDA break-even in February. Reflecting on the experience, Prasanna shared that the platform was instrumental in refining her vision and growth strategy.
Expanding Footprint: Quick Commerce and International Markets
With momentum on its side, Tikitoro is now focused on aggressive expansion. The brand is strengthening its presence on quick commerce platforms such as Blinkit, Swiggy Instamart, Zepto, and BigBasket, making its products more accessible to Indian consumers.
In addition, Tikitoro is gearing up for international expansion. The brand has already applied for trademarks in over 11 countries, including the US, Europe, the UK, and the Middle East to support this growth, Tikitoro plans to launch five new FDA-approved products in the coming months, reinforcing its commitment to safety and innovation.
Lessons in Entrepreneurship and Vision for the Future
Prasanna’s journey from a homemaker to a full-time entrepreneur has been marked by continuous learning and adaptability. She emphasized the importance of identifying a clear market need, starting small, and remaining agile in decision-making. Looking ahead, Tikitoro is targeting an annual recurring revenue (ARR) of 100 crore by FY29, with a focus on sustainable and profitable growth.
“Entrepreneurship is about constant evolution. You have to stay curious, be open to change, and always listen to your customers,” she shared.
Conclusion
Tikitoro’s journey exemplifies the power of market-driven innovation and entrepreneurial resilience. With a strong foundation, strategic partnerships, and a clear growth trajectory, the brand is set to make a lasting impact in the personal care industry. As it expands its reach both in India and internationally, Tikitoro is well on its way to becoming a household name for parents seeking safe and effective products for their children.
