Lighting Up Innovation: Rosha India’s Journey from B2B to B2C – An Exclusive Interview with Co-founder Shivam Dewan

Introduction

In the dynamic world of entrepreneurship, innovation often stems from the simplest observations. For Shivam Dewan, Co-Founder of Rosha India, inspiration struck when he noticed the widespread use of candles in restaurants. What started as a B2B business catering to the hospitality sector soon evolved into a game-changing B2C brand in 2023. In an exclusive interview with Indian Startup Times, Dewan shared insights into Rosha India’s journey, its appearance on Shark Tank India, and the company’s ambitious vision for the future.

Rosha India: The Journey from B2B to B2C
Founded by three partners from business families, Rosha India was launched in 2019 to provide wireless table lamps to the hospitality industry. The brand quickly became a staple in restaurants, with over 6,000 establishments adopting their sleek, functional designs. Recognizing the growing demand for stylish and convenient lighting solutions beyond the hospitality sector, Rosha India pivoted to the B2C market in 2023. Today, their lamps illuminate over 15,000 homes across the country.

A major milestone in their growth story was the transition from importing products to manufacturing 50% of their models in India. Rosha India’s diverse product range now features materials such as steel, marble, wood, aluminum, plastic, glass, and concrete, ensuring versatility and aesthetic appeal.

The Shark Tank India Effect
A turning point for Rosha India came when Dewan and his team secured a deal on Shark Tank India, impressing investors Aman Gupta and Ritesh Agarwal. The duo invested ₹60 lakh for a 4% equity stake, along with a 1.5% royalty, validating the potential of the brand in both the hospitality and consumer markets.

“The Shark Tank experience was transformative,” said Dewan. “After the episode aired, our sales doubled, website traffic surged, and our social media following expanded rapidly.” Beyond the financial boost, the collaboration with the sharks has opened doors to new partnerships and helped strengthen Rosha India’s position in the D2C segment.

Sustainability and the Future of Rosha India
With an increasing emphasis on sustainability, Rosha India recently launched a solar-powered lamp collection, aligning with its vision of reducing reliance on traditional candles and minimizing energy consumption. The company is also working on dash charging technology to enhance the efficiency of its portable lamps.

Looking ahead, Rosha India aims to expand its presence in the D2C market and enter new online and offline marketplaces. Dewan envisions Rosha India as the world’s largest portable lighting brand, with a strong commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction.

Entrepreneurial Insights from Shivam Dewan
Beyond business strategies, Dewan shared valuable entrepreneurial lessons during the interview. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing customer experience over personal ego and highlighted the advantages of having co-founders for collective decision-making.

“Trying new things and learning from failures is crucial. Our focus has always been on delivering quality products and ensuring customer satisfaction,” he noted.

Wrap-Up and Future Collaborations
As the discussion concluded, potential collaborations with other Shark Tank India participants were explored. Dewan also shared plans for future expansions and Rosha India’s growing influence in the portable lighting industry. Additionally, media materials and contacts were exchanged, setting the stage for further networking opportunities.

With a strong foundation, strategic partnerships, and a clear vision, Rosha India is poised for an exciting future, illuminating homes and hospitality spaces alike.
