Vimano Raises Rs 25 Crore in Seed Round Led by Ankur Capital to Scale Clean Energy Membrane Tech.

Nanotech startup Vimano has secured Rs 25 crore (approximately $3 million) in a seed funding round led by Ankur Capital, marking the first investment from the VC firm’s newly launched third fund. The funding will support Vimano in expanding its team, launching pilot projects, and establishing manufacturing capabilities.

Founded in 2019 by Murari Ramkumar and Dr. Nagesh Kini, Vimano develops advanced membranes for clean energy systems, including redox flow batteries, fuel cells, and green hydrogen production. These membranes enhance energy storage and conversion efficiency, with the potential to significantly reduce costs associated with green hydrogen and long-duration energy storage.

Vimano’s proprietary technology addresses critical energy challenges by offering tunable, high-performance membranes that are more durable and energy-efficient than existing alternatives. The startup’s flexible materials are designed to optimize electricity flow, reduce energy loss, and extend the lifespan of energy systems.

Currently collaborating with partners in the energy sector, Vimano is testing its technology in real-world conditions. Its mission is to accelerate the transition to sustainable energy and provide industries with reliable, efficient tools for managing clean power.

Ankur Capital’s investment in Vimano continues its legacy of backing deep-tech innovation in the climate and sustainability space. Notable past investments include Captain Fresh, String Bio, Vegrow, Offgrid Energy Lab, BigHaat, Cropin, and Niramai. In August 2023, the firm received new commitments from two of its existing Limited Partners for its third fund.

With this new capital infusion, Vimano is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of clean energy infrastructure in India and beyond.
