Kerala Startup Mission Boosts Clean Energy Startups with Rs 15 Crore Investment in Transition VC

Date:

Transition VC, a venture capital fund dedicated to advancing the energy transition, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Kerala Startup Mission (KSUM) to support the growth of startups focused on clean energy and decarbonization. The Kerala government, through KSUM, has invested Rs 15 crore in Transition VC, signaling its commitment to bolstering the state’s clean energy ambitions.

The collaboration aims to nurture both local and national deep-tech energy transition startups by providing financial support, strategic guidance, and access to expert mentorship. Transition VC’s specialized knowledge and industry connections will serve as a vital resource for these startups, according to a press release from KSUM.

Kerala has set ambitious sustainability targets, including becoming a 100% renewable energy-based state by 2040 and achieving net carbon neutrality by 2050. To facilitate this transition, the state has built a robust infrastructure with innovation hubs such as Maker Village, fab labs, IoT labs, and MSME clusters, offering cutting-edge resources to startups in the energy sector.

The partnership also leverages Kerala’s institutional connections with research centers, creating an environment where deep-tech energy solutions can scale rapidly. The state’s natural assets, including its tropical climate and extensive coastline, provide opportunities for initiatives such as hydrogen production. The alliance is expected to drive investment in key areas like drone technology and marine electrification, helping industries across Kerala transition toward net-zero emissions.

Transition VC, co-founded by Raiyaan Shingati and Mohammed Shoeb Ali, aims to mitigate 40 million tons of carbon emissions through investments in breakthrough technologies and deliver financial returns to its investors. KSUM, the Kerala government’s nodal agency for entrepreneurship development and incubation, continues to play a pivotal role in fostering innovation and sustainability in the state.

This initiative marks a significant step in Kerala’s journey toward a greener future, with the support of deep-tech innovation and investment driving its clean energy goals.
